PTMBA - Social Enterpreneurship,
First Year

"I found this course is very well formulated and designed after rigorous brainstorming on maximum facets of social entrepreneurship.”

Rough patches by many incidences from childhood lead you towards two decisions – either you break or you make something in life. I chose the second option to build something for people who are going through difficult situations. Hence, I decided to work for the social sector. I started my social career as a young Rotaract member in Rotary International organization. While working in the organization I came across one issue, that many NGOs are contributing to the marginalized sections of the society, but at times they lack innovation and hence are not sustainable.I initiated few innovative and sustainable projects through solar energy to impact nearly 500 + youth from rural population of Dahanu with the help of Rotary Club and received Professional Citizen Karmaveer Puraskar. After this award I was fortunate to meet my mentor, father of thermal solar, Mr. Deepak Gadhia, who motivated me to step into social sector and introduced me the concept of ‘social entrepreneur’.

From last 20 years I have been serving in the social sector through small and big community service projects but I was not completely aware about ‘social entrepreneurship’ to pursue my career in the right direction. Five years ago I have founded two organizations ‘The Green I Initiative Foundation’ for the cause of education, environment and youth development and a for profit social enterprise – ‘Green India Initiative Pvt. Ltd.’ (start-up) which has developed expertise in rural electrification through renewable energy projects since 2014. In five years both the organizations have survived but growth was an area of concern. I was not able to scale up the business to reach and render our services to underprivileged as per my vision to electrify 1000 villages and facilitate energy access to one million underprivileged rural citizens by 2020. One of my well-wishers advised me to improve my knowledge about industry as well approach big corporates to enable me to achieve my social goals. He connected me to NMIMS for Part Time MBA in Social Entrepreneurship to pursue higher studies and understand what is missing in scaling up the business.

The process of joining NMIMS for higher studies was a great experience for me. After joining Part Time MBA in Social Entrepreneurship, NMIMS helped in improvement of our communication through bridge course which was also turning point to understand how effective communication skills can provide us numerous opportunities to do the business.

During the first two trimesters of the course we got to learn many techniques of project engineering, project management, project designing, HR management, project proposal writing, approaching to corporates for corporate social responsibilities, collaborations and scale up, economic development in India and in the world, micro finance and so on. The inputs from these can further help us in personal and professional growth.

I found this course is very well formulated and designed after rigorous brainstorming on maximum facets of social entrepreneurship. This course is accommodating to those, who want to pursue their career in social sector. All the faculties are well equipped with their teaching techniques and leaning tools for crafting great social entrepreneurs in coming future to shape India socially and economically.

Part Time MBA in Social Entrepreneurship is for executives to take a growth platform in the social sector. During the course, we get assignments for individual as well group presentations to learn communication, team work, elevated peach, corporate presentation, presentation to investors, research and proposal writing that helps us to build our leadership skills. These assignments are challenging as well as useful to sharpen our skills and knowledge for working in commercial world.

Many opportunities will open doors in the market after completion of this course. For students like me who have their own enterprise, we will be able to concentrate on our social entrepreneurial mission. Specifically, for me, I will get opportunities for collaboration to kick start my professional growth and it will enhance my network to build a platform for greater implementation of my community work.
