"Learning through case studies and discussions enrich our learning when people with different backgrounds and experiences share their thoughts.”

I am an engineer with a background in the corporate sector. I had been on a sabbatical, when an acquaintance asked me to help her with something at her NGO. That was my initiation into volunteering.

Having been associated with education and healthcare organisations, I could see first-hand the impact these made to the lives of so many. It dawned on me that the NGOs and the private players would be the ones to bring the real change. I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

Having decided my future path, my first thought was to get a complete understanding of the sector. I am a believer in education and I embarked on looking for courses that would better equip me for the future. I came across a few, very short-term courses. When I was mulling over these, there was this one nagging question, "What will be the depth of a course that would be covered in such a short span. Yes, I would get a degree that would certify that I have these credentials, but would I really have them?”

It was during this time, when I was looking for something else, I came across this ad of PTMBA SE. I read the details of what the course had to offer. It was super exciting. A part-time weekend course which I could manage with my other responsibilities. It was all that I knew I had to learn and what I did not know that I should learn. The last date for registration was in two days and honestly, I thought this was some kind of a sign. I spoke to the coordinator, got the details, spoke to an ex-student, discussed it at home and decided to go ahead with it.

Our Professor and Director of the program, Dr Meena Galliara, told us in our first meeting, that although this was a part-time course the vigour would be the same as that of a full-time MBA. We would have to manage our time well. She couldn’t have been more correct. One more thing she mentioned that we were getting an opportunity to get back to college and we should make the most of it. This was something which really resonated with me.

NMIMS has all the facilities that any good institution should have. They have a great library. Our faculty comprises of a mixed group of senior professors to ex-students of this course. Learning through case studies and discussions enrich our learning when people with different backgrounds and experiences share their thoughts. We have workshops from external subject matter experts. Field visits and lectures from alumni showcased the theory being taught in class being implemented at work. The other great thing is the close bond that they share with Meena Ma’am. After having passed out from the institution years ago they know the doors are always open for them for any kind of advice or collaboration.

We have Group and Individual assignments that requires research and application of theory. For Group assignments, we work with class mates who have different styles of working, different experience levels, different attitudes towards work. Some have been good experiences and some not so good. But overall we get good learning experiences. This prepares us to deal with all sorts of people in the real world.

Every subject ends with a Group Presentation. Great way of making people shed their inhibitions about public speaking and building confidence.

The course equips us to become an all-rounder. On its completion, each of us can choose the path that we would want to follow. One could be a good manager and a leader in any of the domains such as Social Enterprise, CSR, etc.

We are also inspired to start our Social Enterprises. There have been cases of students having come up with ideas during the course and nurtured them here. This course will also help students who are running their social enterprises to scale them up.

I see a lot of future leaders and social entrepreneurs graduating from this course who will create an impact in this world.
